I applied to University of Florida on a whimSep 15 2008Biology
I applied to University of Florida on a whim. My father asked me to do the application just to see if I could get in because he really really liked the idea of a free education. I had sent in my scores from the first time I took the SAT and I wrote the essay for application an hour before it was due (I love online applications.) I read over it recently and I had like three grammatical errors and frankly it was horrible. But I got in... I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with my high SAT score which got me into the Honors college at UF...I don't think my essay helped me out at all... and my high school extracurriculars had gone from a four sport athlete in my first two years to a zero sport athlete as a senior due to injuries. (something I didn't specify in my application so I just looked like a total slacker)
I had a pretty decent GPA, a high SAT score, zero sports, zero reported community service hours, zero outstanding resume components so I'm pretty sure the only reason I got in was that my grades and SAT scores would raise their university statistics (another example of how this university doesn't care about the individual student but rather just about the student as a statistic.)

I literally applied to UF the night before the deadline. I really had no intention on coming here so I just used essays from other college apps and lo and behold i got in. I am in the honors college here, and it really isn't all that great. Although, if you can score a 1400 or better on your SAT and you have a weighted 4.0 GPA you might as well do the honors college. they have the best dorms.

"Worked" at a few restaurants, played non-league American football, traveled abroad, head of Science Club at high school.

APs: Bio, Chem, Gov't, Calc AB/BC, Hist
SAT: 1350 (w/out any prep)
GPA: don't remember but I did have a few C's in the first two years of high school. In HS had a C first semester in AP Chem and later all A's in Chem.
Essay: meh winged it in a couple of days, wrote about my academic pursuits
Letters of rec: from Bio teacher (had all A's and a 5 on the AP), though UF might not have seen this

I got into the honors program hereNov 10 2007Language - French/Spanish/etc.
I got into the honors program here. My GPA was extremely high (I don't recall the number... I had one B and the rest were A- to A+ all four years of high school), and on the SAT I scored 740 Verbal, 740 Math, and 790 Writing, although I don't believe writing is being counted yet.

I took 9 AP classes and passed all the exams, and the rest of my classes were honors.

I had a couple long-term extracurriculars, but nothing too intense.

I was a National Merit Finalist, and UF recruits us.

If you make the requirements for the honors program or are a national merit finalist or scholar, you are pretty much guaranteed an acceptance to UF and the honors program.
